AN INTRODUCTION TO BOWLING AT RIVERMEAD
Rivermead Bowling Club plan to open 6 days a week from 11th October until the end of March (Closed Fridays).
It caters for bowlers of all abilities. It offers League play, competitions, friendly games, competitive games.
One rink is available for public use.
Partially sighted bowlers bowl every week and also have competitive games against other partially sighted bowls clubs.
There are leagues every day from Monday to Thursday (typically 10.30; 2.30 & 6.30) Each league session is for 2 hours, the exception being on Thursday evening when the session runs for 3 hours
A Points session is run each Tuesday (9am & 10.45am), Wednesday 6.30pm and Thursday 10.30am. Sessions last approximately 90 minutes.
There is no need to book – just turn up 10 minutes before the start time.
Coaching by our qualified coaches take place on on Wednesday at 4.30pm. Not bowled before and/or not a Rivermead member – No problem – simple turn up for a introduction to bowls. All equipment supplied. Just bring flat soled shoes.
On Tuesday afternoons there is often a ladies’ match.
There is a men’s interclub league on some Saturday mornings and club friendly matches are played on Saturday or Sunday afternoons and can be either at home or away.
There are spare two hour sessions which can be booked for roll-ups or competitions – just ring the office to book (0118 950 0803)
What to wear?
Shoes – Flat soled bowling shoes must be worn. These shoes should not be worn to arrive in.
We do have a club shirt which must be worn for all club matches. For leagues, points, early stages of competitions and roll-ups a white shirt and grey trousers or skirts are required. Ladies do have a turquoise/green cardigan while men wear white “snowballs”.
Our playing surface is expensive and we do have to treat it with respect. We have started by asking that the flat shoes your wear to bowl in are not used to run out to the car to get something you forgot.
We also remind you that the use of Grippo, glycerine and rose water and suchlike are not permitted.
